Join the BBQ Bus for the only small group, family owned and operated trip to Milford Sound in New Zealand. Travel from Queenstown or Te Anau and enjoy our unique interactive tour. We operate all year round. Between November and April enjoy a delicious 'kiwi style' barbeque lunch which includes New Zealand lamb shish kebabs, our famous mango curry marinated chicken shish kebabs, and tasty sausages.
Vegetarian option is also available. On the Milford Road we often have a close encounter with the Kea, the worlds only true alpine parrot.
Between May and October the barbeque lunch is served on the boat so people can get out of the cold weather and stay warm and dry. The BBQ is under a glass covered viewing deck on the back of the boat and there are two warm lounge areas inside the boat. The BBQ lunch remains the same and is exclusive to BBQ Bus passengers.

Milford Sound New Zealand is arguably the most scenic destination in New Zealand. Milford Sound is located at the northern most end of the 3 million acre Fiordland National Park, this also forms part of a large UNESCO world heritage area known as ‘Te Wahipounamu’ (place of Greenstone). Milford Sound bounded by steep cliffs and dense alpine rain forest continues to captivate even the most seasoned of travellers. Rising 1,692 vertical metres from Milford Sound is its most famous land mark, ‘Mitre Peak’ one of the highest mountain peaks in the world to rise directly from the sea.
Our BBQ Bus Milford Sound day tour offers travellers a truly unique and interactive experience, with our small bus we are able to access many areas for sightseeing and photo stops that the bigger buses just can’t get to, we stop for a nice bush/alpine walk enjoying the fresh mountain air then relax for our delicious BBQ lunch at one of our special locations inside the Fiordland National Park.
Once in Milford Sound, climb aboard the purpose built boat with outdoor observation areas and comfortable indoor areas. Look out for Dolphins and NZ Fur Seals!
Between November and April, we connect with a 3:00pm Milford Sound cruise boat. Having already had our barbeque lunch you can just enjoy the cruise experience without having to worry about organising lunch on the boat. Help yourself to complimentary tea and coffee during the cruise and be sure to try some clean mountain water. May to October can be the nicest time of the year to visit Milford Sound with fewer people travelling and sometimes lots of beautiful snow.
Between May and October (winter), we cook our BBQ lunch on the cruise boat.
So, come and join the BBQ Bus for a truly unforgettable tour to Milford Sound any time of the year.
